Back to (beauty) school...

I always feel in a studious mood at this time of the year.
I'm not sure if its the awareness of the schools/colleges/Uni's starting a new term, or if it's because, as this is my birthday month, it always feels like this is the start of my new year, my 1st January.

In October last year I graduated after two years & gained my Certificate in Education, officially qualifying me to teach all aspects of Beauty Therapy.
Teaching has always been a part of my career that I enjoyed & so spurred on by this urge to go back to 'school' & find something new to learn myself I finally created my 'U and your skin masterclass'.

So why not join me in learning mode & book yourself onto my skincare masterclass...hope to be handing out a 'Gold star' to you for achievement very soon...

Computers..Are they ageing you?

Something that I have always taught my clients & beauty students is that we are exposed to UV rays all year round.
It doesn't have to be a bright, hot, sunny day to get skin damage from the sun & with a whopping 90 % of the skin's ageing coming from those rays, that lesson usually got them reaching for their daily environmental shield.
However, I then always go onto say that you shouldn't feel smug if you simply don't actually see much of the light of day during your working week as you are trapped in your offices & so don't expose yourself to much of that daily UV anyway.
This is beacuse computers & those really unflattering office lights also omit rays that are damaging to your skin.
Now this seems to be a 'hot topic' in some of the latest glossies but is something I have been talking (preaching) about for years!
Its another reminder as to why we need to use an environmental shield (so a product with an spf but that's protecting your skin from a
lot more than just the sun) everyday!
Look for ingredients such as Zinc or Titanium oxide which are a natural way of reflecting those harmful rays.
So now your armed with another way of looking younger for longer.
And while were on that topic stop squinting while your reading this to avoid 'computer face' which is a new brand of lines & wrinkles exaperated by glaring at your pc.

Eat your way to a hydrated skin...

It goes without saying that water is a vital component to our bodies not just our skin.
One of the pieces of advice I continually give is to ensure that my clients are getting their daily quota of water intake.
This is advice that isn't faddy, radical or the latest scientific research but it is so important & can be detremental to the health of our skin.

I am sometimes met with a sneer at the suggestion that we need to take on board 1 1/2 to 2 litres of water per day & have to confess that drinking water doesn't 'excite' me but I think of it as a form of medicine that my body & my skin needs to function properly.
Dry skin, spotty outbreaks, senstivity & even oily skin can all be as a result of a lack of hydration.

But fear not! You don't have to line up your bottles of Evian (other good quality mineral water is available) as your daily quota can be made up from other sourrces too.
Consider if you have any of the following in your daily diet & give yourself a pat on the back for any that you can tick off & take off your water intake:

- fresh friut &/or vegetable juices
- Green, White, Herbal or Fruit teas
- Fruit & Veg especially Spinach, Melon, Apricots & Cucumbers. These are high in water & packed with anti ageing Vitamins too.

My signature 'U and your skin' facial surrounds the thought process that you need to treat your skin from the inside out.
